Chimney Drafting Problems
Drafting problems in fireplace chimneys can be very confusing. What
might be a solution for one chimney does nothing for another one. Each
situation is different that is why there are so many solutions. Which one
do you choose from? Here is a list of downdraft solutions.
Flue extender or flue stretcher. In many situations raising the chimney
higher into the wind is the best solution. Flue extenders also work great
when multipl;e flues are in the same chimney. Sometimes when one flue
is being used the smoke or fumes are drawn in through the other flue.
Extending one of the flues is one solution. A more decorative solution is
the
copper chimney pot. Chimney pots have been used in Europe for
centuries. They were made of clay and very heavy. A few years ago in
the USA chimney pots became very popular in copper. They are light
weight in comparison to the clay chimney pots. Copper chimney pots are
available in several styles and heights, they offer a very distinctive style to
your home.
Vacu Stack or Windbeater chimney caps use the wind to create a
venturi effect in your flue. The unique shape of the cap causes the wind
to spin creating an updraft in your flue.
