What are horticultural oil sprays?
Horticultural oil is a petroleum based oil that is refined to mix easily with water. The main use is to
control insects on plants and shrubs. Petroleum based horticultural oils are safe for humans and the
environment. The best time to apply horticultural oil is when the plants start to bud. The oils will only
work on the following insects: pine needle scale, oystershell scale, euonymus scale, aphids, spider
mites and small pine sawfly larvae. The oils will only work on the larvae and slow moving insects that it
comes in contact with. It will not work on mature adult insects.
